About Bomba...!*

Bomba is a musical expression created in Puerto Rico at the end of the 17th century, by West Africans and their descendants who worked the colonial sugar plantations along the coast of Puerto Rico. Through fiery drum rhythms and improvised dance, the cane workers released feelings of anger, resistance, and sadness about their condition. It was at "Bailes de Bombas" (Bomba Dances) where baptisms and marriages were celebrated, and rebellions planned. For this reason, celebrations were only permitted on Sundays and Feast Days. At Bailes the Bomba, the sounds of drums called "barriles," typically made of empty codfish or rum barrels, drew the crowd into a circle. Dancers took turns challenging the drums, creating a dialog with their movements that the solo drummer answered. It is said that women bomba dancers would typically dance with their skirt raised, showing their slips, to ridicule the attire worn by plantation ladies.

Memoir: The beginning

Like all days in the math classroom: -¿Qué tu miras? ¡Ahh! ¿Te gusto?
- ¡Já, Ni que mirándola yo, yo no sé que se están creyendo estas!
So it was, day by day, we had a different problem. Neither group wanted to change their attitudes. After a several months, our health teacher realized that there were no changes and problems did not diminish. That’s when the health teacher discussed this issue with us. We sat forming a circle and the teacher was in the middle of the circle, looking for any reaction from us. The teacher started to ask what the reason of the problems we had was.
Jazmin start to talk: - “Maestra el problema es que ellas se creen que son las dueñas de la escuela”.
Maran, -Si maestra y Mylee me mira mal.
I: No, teacher, that’s not true, I’m serious. Not all the time I'll have a smile and less to people that I don’t have communication.
When we started to talk and see the stupidity we had, we realized that we had to grow up. In that moment began to flow forgiveness, tears and feelings were let out. The group 11-5 began to get along and great friendship flourished. After that day I had new friends that today are unique ones. Diversity of tastes and personalities has shown me that it is a key point for friends to have that friendship is a feeling fed by, tolerance and respect. This lifetime experience made me grow and it strengthen my values.

It's far away
with a terrific aspect
is tall tall
it looks like if it was touching the sky
It has a long road that leads you inside
It has green color

What is this?

Spanish and English... two languages... two cultures... two worlds... Why they join us? My language is Spanish, for what I need English? English, as the nationalist; the language of colonization, according to economists, the language that has been globalized. But as I? What is English in my perception? English is only language that I want to learn; like French or Russian. English is simpler than Spanish according to studies, for me, complicated because it hasn't enough vocabulary... Impossible? No, nothing is impossible, I have a lot to practice! :)
